Walleye management for inland waters

The DNR Fisheries Division recently developed a new Management Plan for Walleye in Michigan’s Inland Waters with assistance from Michigan State University Fisheries and Wildlife Department faculty. Additionally, consultation with Tribal governments and feedback from other state natural resource agencies, citizen advisory committees, and anglers were critical to inform and revise early versions of the plan. New sportfishing regulations

Changes have been made to river and inland water fishing regarding size and daily limits on certain species as well as special hook requirements, all regulation changes are acknowledged in the 2022 fishing guide, which will be available March 1 at Michigan.gov/DNRDigests. Anglers are encouraged to periodically review the digital version of the fishing guide for any regulation updates throughout the 2022 fishing season. Regulations are one tool the DNR uses to implement management strategies to protect, conserve, and improve Michigan’s fisheries.
