SB431 was sponsored by Sen. Adam Hollier (D-District 2) and would amend the Michigan Zoning Enabling Act to prohibit local governments from preventing mineral extraction unless there are “very serious consequences”, there is also a similar bill, HB5979 sponsored by Rep Triston Cole (R-District 105).

We understand that SB431 will likely come to a vote tomorrow – Thursday, December 3, 2020 in the Michigan Senate and you may wish to contact your State Senator and/or Senator Adam Hollier ahead of the vote.

The Michigan Municipal League has written about this issue, you can read the Blog Article about SB431 by Jennifer Rigterink – Legislative Associate, State & Federal Affairs for MML.
