MLSA Around the State

Melissa DeSimone, MLSA Executive Director, speaks on a panel with DNR, EGLE, the local Sheriff, and Legislators about topics important to lake residents in West Bloomfield. Topics included wake boat concerns, permitting for lake levels and dams, algae, lakeshores, and safety on the water, among others.

Not pictured: David Maturen testifies before the Administrative Law Judge at the request of EGLE about Concentrated Animal Feeding Operations, as he did in 2020. Excerpt from Dave’s testimony: “The lack of any control on CAFOs afforded to rural residents leaves those residents with no voice in matters that impact their quality of life and environment except for actions that may be taken by the state government through this permit. This permit is our last hope. Please err on the side of caution for our lakes and streams and residents.”

MLSA Board Vice President Mark Teicher and Secretary Lon Nordeen, as well as President David Maturen (pictured with long-time MLSA member, Bev Haas, and Milliken Awardee, Governor Jennifer Granholm), attend the Michigan Environmental Council (MEC) Milliken Award Celebration in Ann Arbor. Also pictured above is Melissa DeSimone giving the official welcome in her capacity as Board Chair of the Environmental Council.
