We had a very successful discussion on Saturday morning at the Porter Township Hall in Van Buren County. There were many interesting topics discussed with veteran lake leaders and new ones too. Lots of discussion centered around Aquatic Invasive Species treatment and when those treatments can occur, specifically why we avoid fall applications. Participants had a lot to report regarding their fish stocking experiences as well as controlling waterfowl like geese and mute swans. We spend a lot of time on flooding and runoff issues related to local ordinances (or lack there of) and agricultural contaminants.
If you are interested in volunteering to get a regional meeting going in your area, contact Melissa DeSimone, MLSA Executive Director. We want to support and encourage these events but they are not possible without dedicated, local volunteers for planning and execution of events.
