Vote to Keep Michigan Special
By Paul J Sniadecki, MLSA Board Director
The 2024 General Election is just days away and there are crucial issues at both the national and state levels. Michigan has realized significant progress in water and environmental protections since the election of 2022. However, the question is: Can we continue to make progress to keep Michigan special?
The simple answer is: Depends on who is elected.
Hopefully voters will act to empower politicians who respect the concerns of riparians and others concerned about the environment. (see article about Lame Duck, below). With the Supreme Court (SCOTUS) overturning of the CHEVRON doctrine in the Loper Bright Enterprises v. Raimondo and Relentless, Inc v. Department of Commerce, (“Loper Bright”), LOPER is important for elected officials to preserve the progress made with SB14 into the future. Prior to SB14, Michigan had made itself just “run of the mill” with the concept that Michigan should just do what the Federal Law provides about water, wetlands, and other riparian concerns.
